Facial Massage Ease Hurts Sooner

When I wake up in the morning I look in the mirror. I see my face! Aagh, what happened to me, where is my young face? Through my years it has disappeared. I need a refreshing look. My high school reunion is coming up and my skin is tight and dry. Sure, I have aged and have three small girls. But, who knows that? I reckon I need a massage. Not one to make me feel better, but one to make me look better. I need a facial massage

Massage is not a new medical breakthrough, no, this art has been practiced throughout the world. Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document its use; the ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments; and even Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems. This is done to enhance function and promote relaxation and well-being. Facial massage is recorded far back in other cultures, but the Western version is a recent twentieth century innovation. Many European practitioners have come to the US recently to teach others.

Does your face feel dry? I often feel like my face needs more moisture, and I'm sure, unless you have particularly oily skin, you do. Blemishes? Fine lines, red lines and skin one and texture can be reduced by massage. A facial massage can also reverse the signs of aging. It sure beats botox!

Facial rejuvenation is also known as Indian facial massage. This is better and less invasive than a surgical face lift. When stress is relieved (as it can be with a massage) your face will look less stressed and more relaxed, resulting in a younger look that shows on our faces.

Do you reckon this is the limit of a facial massage? No, there are other benefits. Do you notice how your child's skin glows? It is so soft and gorgeous, it is blemish free and not in the least bit puffy. Healthy skin is an indication of a healthy body and mind. Collagen production is increased, and this helps to diminish wrinkles. It also tightens the flesh under the chin, thereby eliminating a double chin, which, incidentally, occurs in slim as well as stout people.

I know that in my experience as a mother, the children are always the first to have lotion on the faces at night, the first to have sun-screen in the sun. I make sure that they wear hats, I watch their faces for redness, and if too red, I bring them in from the sun. Me, I am the last, often the one not to, have sun screen applied. No-one watches for my skin, but myself. My face, with age needs more protection. Since I have three girls to watch over, it is comforting for me to know that dryness and over-exposure can be helped by a facial massage. While it won't relieve all that ails my face, I reckon I can still go out in company of people my own age, and not feel aged due to a facial massage. I know I will not be looking the worst in the group!

Obat Batuk Tradisional

Apa yaa..obat batuk tradisional untuk anak-anak? Anakku 17.5 bulan.

obat batuk tradisionalTanya:

[Ftr]

Jawab:

Mbak, coba pakai rebusan air daun sirih (daun sirih 3 lembar digodok air segelas, jadikan setengah gelas). Kalau belum tahan pedas tambahkan air saja ketika mau diminum.

Perbanyak minum air putih hangat saja mbak [MW]

Mbak, Anakku (17 bulan 1 hari) beberapa minggu yang lalu juga tumbuh gigi gerahamnya sekaligus 3 + sariawan + demam + batuk & pilek, sempat ke dsa, karena demamnya agak tinggi aku kasih tempra. Menurut aku, mbak anaknya diperbanyak minum air hangat saja dulu, terus kalau ada bakat alergi hindari dulu pencetus alerginya [RN]

Health care challenge about politics, not policy

Editor's note: Dr. Aaron E. Carroll is an associate professor of pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine and the director of the university's Center for Health Policy and Professionalism Research. He blogs about health policy at The Incidental Economist.

(CNN) -- It's very likely that you will see a lot in the news about Republicans' opposition to the individual mandate and their challenge of the constitutionality of health care reform in the next few weeks. The individual mandate is the Obama health care reform law's requirement -- ruled unconstitutional by a judge Monday -- that all Americans obtain insurance.

Surprisingly, small of that news will focus on the cost, quality or access in the U.S. health care system. What is being fought over now is politics, not policy.

It wasn't that long ago that the individual mandate wasn't controversial, even among Republicans. As recently as a year ago, Republican Sen. Charles Grassley was saying that the mandate loved bipartisan support.

In the 1990s, Republicans proposed health care reform that included an individual mandate, and it was co-sponsored by Grassley and Sens. Orrin Hatch, Bob Bennett and Kit Bond -- all Republicans. Massachusetts' health reform law, signed by then-Republican Gov. Mitt Romney, also includes an individual mandate.

Today, of course, the mandate is unpopular -- the most clearly unpopular component of the new health reform law, in fact. That's not terribly surprising; nobody likes to be told what to do. For that reason, Barack Obama never campaigned on a platform to require everyone to buy insurance (although Hillary Clinton did).

But, as he came to know, like Romney and others before him, a mandate (or an equivalent means to encourage insurance buy) is necessary for all the other parts of health care reform -- the parts that people do like -- to work.

One such thing is the ability to buy affordable insurance even if you have pre-existing conditions. Hence, the law bans pre-existing condition exclusions.

For insurance companies to take all-comers at affordable rates, but, we need both healthy and sick people in the mix, buying coverage and paying premiums.

Sick people want insurance, so they'll buy it if they can afford it, even without a mandate. Sick people are expensive though. The only way an insurance company can cover their cost of care and still charge affordable premiums is if healthy people who cost less also enroll and pay premiums. But, because healthy people don't have as many high-cost health care needs, without a mandate they're more likely to forgo coverage until they become sick.

If only sick people get insurance, it raises the price for those who have it, and it becomes too expensive for many who need it to afford. That's what the individual mandate helps avoid. But, if we force people to buy insurance, then we have to make sure that it's affordable. That's why we have the subsidies.

This is the "three-legged stool" of health care reform. We want the pre-existing condition exclusion ban, which requires the mandate, which necessitates the subsidies. If you remove either of the latter two pieces, health care premiums will go up, fewer people will have insurance, and even fewer will use private insurance.

Now, through the courts, Republicans are attacking the mandate, threatening the stability of the three-legged stool. The most recent choice in Virginia declares the mandate unconstitutional, though other decisions have upheld it. I suppose it is predictable then that the choice is causing a firestorm on cable TV, in print and in the blogosphere. As a political tale, it is the first chink in the armor of the law.

All the drama over the Virginia choice is overblown though. It does not end the debate over the constitutionality of the mandate. That will be chose in the Supreme Court, and it will likely take years for any case to work its way there. Moreover, the mandate does not even kick in until 2014, so it is extremely unlikely that any case involving the mandate will threaten the implementation of the law before then.

Further, it is not assured that the Supreme Court will strike down the mandate. Previous cases make it unclear that even the most conservative justices will find that Congress has overstepped its bounds.

And even if they do, it is not clear that finding the mandate to be unconstitutional will negate the whole law. While the health reform law does lack a severability clause, which assures that a bill survives even if part of it is "severed," precedent shows that the Supreme Court has let laws stand even when pieces are deemed unconstitutional.

Finally, even if the mandate is struck down, or perhaps before, Congress could make all this go away with a more palatable solution than the mandate.

Insurance companies could pressure states to pass their own mandates, like in Massachusetts, which would not be unconstitutional. Or, the system could be reconfigured to allow adults to opt out with an agreement that they can't easily opt back in. It's vital to remember that what the system needs is enough healthy people to buy insurance to keep premiums low and the market stable. A mandate is only one way to achieve that.

These facts seem lost in the current media firestorm over court cases challenging the mandate. Instead, coverage focuses on the partisan divide, what it means for the Obama administration, and which team will win.

Right now, with respect to the things that matter, all the talk and pontificating is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Aaron E. Carroll.

Doctors question TSA’s use of pat downs, body scans

(CNN) -- Thomas Sawyer, a cancer survivor, has worn a urostomy bag for the past three years. Yet, he says, small could have prepared him for his recent airport pat down, when an officer broke the bag's seal and urine spilled out "onto my shirt and down my pants."

"I'm a excellent American. I know why we're doing this, and I know it," Sawyer told CNN. "But this was extremely embarrassing, and it didn't have to happen. With educated TSA workers, it wouldn't have happened."

With the height of Thanksgiving holiday travel the next two days, the Transportation Security Administration is trying to strike a delicate balance between ensuring the safety of the traveling public and not invading people's privacy rights.

But the screening raises an array of questions from health-care professionals:

• Are TSA officers trained to deal with patients like Sawyer who may have medical conditions?

• What about the elderly and others with hip replacements and similar ailments?

• Will cancer patients have to take off wigs?

• How is the TSA dealing with pat downs of children?

• What about people with mental illness?

The TSA says it has taken all of these concerns into account -- that children are not to be separated from their parents if pat downs are deemed necessary and that travelers with medical conditions should be treated with "the dignity, respect and courtesy they deserve."

Watch: Cancer survivor accepts TSA apology

"Our program covers all categories of disabilities -- mobility, hearing, visual and hidden," the TSA says on its website. "As part of that program, we established a coalition of over 70 disability-related groups and organizations to help us know the concerns of persons with disabilities and medical conditions."

Jonathan Bricker, a psychologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Washington state, says he advises anyone traveling right now to come mentally prepared for the unexpected.

"Go in with an expectation that this is going to happen, and go in with the expectation that you're going to be the one singled out to go through a pat down," Bricker says.

By doing that, people "can take more control of the situation." He says people with medical conditions should also carry notes from their doctors.

If a tense situation does arise while being screened, passengers should reckon about the huge picture, he says. "There is a larger purpose to this trip that has nothing to do with the TSA and nothing to do with the government. And the purpose is: You're visiting people you like."

The TSA has said the ramped-up use of pat downs and full-body scanning is necessary to prevent weapons and explosives from getting aboard planes.

The White House on Monday said the process is evolving and that the government is taking into account the public's concerns. "The evolution of the security will be done with the input of those who go through the security," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said.

Recent polls have shown most Americans support the measures, and a periphery glance at airports nationwide shows that the vast majority of travelers are dealing well with the extra scrutiny, even if it makes them uneasy at times.

Dr. Gina Villani, the head of oncology at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, says the extra scrutiny raises concerns for cancer patients, who could have metallic dishes for chemo placed under their skin, external catheters or other necessary medical devices on their bodies.

"You can imagine during a pat down, you're feeling this piece of metal under somebody's skin. If you don't know what it is, then it's going to make a lot of problems for people," she said.

Doctors must be more aware of when their patients are traveling and write notes explaining their conditions, she says. Most of the time, though, "patients only reckon about it after they've had a terrible experience."

A doctor's note also carries a demoralizing stigma. "You want to go on vacation and forget you have cancer," Villani says. "It's just one more reminder of how different you are from the rest of the population."

Another area of concern is the pat down of children. Craig Fabrikant, a psychologist at Hackensack University Medical Center, has simple advice for the TSA: Have officers trained to deal with children on shift at all times, and always have the parent or guardian undergo a pat down first, in front of the child.

"Why not let the child see the parent go through it, that it's no huge deal, that it's fine," Fabrikant says.

He says it's simple and practical advice, but he's doubtful any of it will be used. After all, he says, it's huge government.

"Not only does it not use common sense, it doesn't go that quickly."

To the agency's credit, TSA administrator John Pistole called Sawyer to apologize Monday after he learned of the incident. The two had a cordial conversation, and Sawyer even shared some advice.

"He questioned me what I thought," Sawyer said. "So I talked to him -- that I really don't believe that they've been trained as well as [they could] to handle medical conditions."

Payudara Meledak Karena Implan Murahan

Jumat, 24/09/2010 17:30 WIB

Merry Wahyuningsih - detikHealth

<!--
-->
